    Skyscraper Film

    Skyscraper Film is a collage made from scraps of orphaned 16mm films from the 1970s, originally produced to promote tourism in North America. The films, hand-worked with the emulsion lifting technique, are dismantled and recomposed into a new abstract animation that, through material and visual stratifications, creates an eco-critical reflection on wild urbanization.

    A transnational visual artist, she is currently a PhD candidate in Cinema and Media Studies at York University in Toronto. Her interdisciplinary practice develops at the intersection of experimental cinema, migration studies and archival practices, with a focus on women’s diasporic experiences and on the concepts of belonging and migrant temporality. Through the use of cameraless techniques, such as emulsion lifting, and the use of orphan 16mm films, she reworks archival materials to construct an ecocritical and material aesthetic. Her work has been presented and recognized in numerous international contexts, including film festivals and contemporary art institutions, such as EX-iS (Seoul), Macau Art Garden (China), Images Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and Crossroads (San Francisco).
