Kill it and Leave this town
Poland 2020 / 88’
A city grows out of all proportion in the main character’s imagination. He has taken refuge to escape time and to live amongst literary and animated characters who stay young forever. However, old age reaches them even in this imaginary city. The making of this full-length film lasted 14 years and, although conceived as a short film, this work, like in other authors of contemporary Polish cinema, is characterized by a non-linear form of narration. It was lengthened by the continuous addition of new scenes and characters.
This is a traditional animation hand-drawn on paper of different sizes, the urban landscapes are 5cm long and 1cm high. Effects like rain drops on the windows, lamps turned on, neon lights, were shot live and then transposed digitally onto the drawn scenography.
