Born in Rome in 1958. Firstly painter and graphic designer, he received the Lubiam award in 1980 by Renato Guttuso. Since 1992 he has been involved in experimental animated cinema, and his works were soon noticed by critics and by important festivals like Venice, Rome, Locarno, Montreal, Paris, Berlin. He worked with animation and set designs for Italian TV, both in RAI (Blob) and Fininvest (L’angelo). In 2025 Freelm, co-directed by Alain Parroni, won the European Cinematography Award for best experimental film. Carrying out his works Carrano has collaborated with well-known composers such as Sylvano Bussotti, Giorgio Battistelli, Ennio and Andrea Morricone, Marco Colonna, Massimo Carrano, Antonello Salis, Sandro Satta, Mark Dresser, Giovanni Sollima, Fabrizio Volpi.

Born in 1992, he has collaborated with Leonardo Carrano on films and exhibitions since 2013. His works have been awarded at the Nastri d’Argento, selected in Venice and all over the world; he has also acted as a photographer for the movies by, among others, Matteo Garrone and Susanna Nicchiarelli. Una sterminata domenica (2023) has been selected at Venezia Orizzonti.
