Abstraction offers an immersive journey dedicated to the intersection of animated and avant-garde cinema, exploring the aesthetic, linguistic, and experimental affinities that exist between these two languages ??of visual research.
The exhibition space is structured around a series of multimedia totems, each dedicated to the most experimental works of directors and visual artists Shunsaku Hayashi, Zbigniew Czapla, and Vuk Jevremovi?, featured in the retrospectives of the 12th edition of Animaphix. Each totem presents a selection of short films that redefine the relationship between image, movement, and narration, in a research in which sound takes on a generative role: not simply an accompaniment, but a true expressive medium, capable of engaging with the graphic sign, the film surface, and the composition of space.
Equipped with individual headphones, the settings promote an intimate and focused experience, inviting visitors to grasp the complexity of the dialogue between sound, rhythm, and image. The arrangement of the totems suggests a non-linear path, allowing each visitor to create their own experience navigating techniques—from direct scratching on the frame to digital experimentation—and the poetics of the moving image.
The installation presents animation in its most radical and experimental dimension, recognizing it as a language capable of transcending the confines of traditional narrative to explore the expressive possibilities of the image. The totems thus become devices for viewing and listening, meeting points between cinema and the visual arts, where the time of screening transforms into a contemplative and participatory experience.
